Originally selling at Sydney’s Glebe markets, Gillian Tennant has fast established herself as an emerging talent amongst the Sydney fashion week scene. Mixing vintage/antique styling with subtle fabric shades, the namesake Gillian Tennant label is gaining well-deserved recognition for her free-flowing and pure designs. Australian Fashion Review Blog is a fan.

“In terms of inspiration, I guess I would say that when I come to design a new collection, I am most motivated by what I would like to wear at that moment in time and what I feel is missing from my wardrobe. Hence my designs are easy to wear and relaxed. I always aim to create pieces that will be worn over and over and that can be easily mixed with the items already existing in a customer’s wardrobe.

I love garments to have a feeling innocence and purity about them – most of my silhouettes are quite free-flowing and airy. In terms of colour, I tend to gravitate towards a washed-out palette (whites, creams, pastels etc).

I love collecting antique garments (mostly from the Victorian era) and this also inspires my collections in terms of the type of fabrics used (Swiss cotton voiles, handkerchief linens and silks) and their hand-made quality.” Words by Gillian on StyleMilk
