Like with most “specialty” dresses, sundresses should suit the occasion to which you want to wear it. Comfort is important with sundresses too. Sundresses are generally for casual occasions, but some of them can be dressed up with a great jacket or shoes.
And just because you’re plus size, don’t immediately write off maxi dresses, because they do not necessarily look like muumuus. You can get softly draped maxi dresses with a belt or sash at the waist, or with an empire waist that can be wonderfully flattering. A slit on one side gives maxi dresses a more casual look. A great pair of jeweled flat sandals finishes off the look.
If you are busty, a halter top with sufficient coverage and wider straps can flatter the bust without making you look as if you’ll topple over. If you have great legs, don’t be afraid to go above the knee with length. Sundresses are generally worn at casual functions where shorter lengths are appropriate.
Strapless styles or spaghetti strap sundresses work best on women with smaller busts. And if the skirt is flowing rather than tight, this can be a great look if you’re pear shaped. You’ll generally want flat shoes to wear with your sundress, though espadrilles with a bit of a heel can work well if you want to add a little height.
